Confessions of a Courier: Clothing Optional

Late one morning while doing his usual runs in the Los Angeles area, a driver of ours got a pick-up that he would never forget. Our courier drivers are required to carry around a phone with a 2-way direct connect to be able to communicate with dispatch and receive orders more quickly and efficiently. This morning was like every other morning; he had been busy for a good two to three hours and was on stand-by waiting until someone needed a same-day delivery in Los Angeles.

At around 11:30 A.M., he got a pickup run from our dispatcher in Beverly Hills. He knew the Beverly Hills area well since he had been working in the Los Angeles courier service business for a while. His order read, "picking up one small box from Bill," we will call the man Bill for security purposes. He planned to pick up the box, drop it off a few blocks away, and get some lunch.

When the driver arrived at the house, he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary and it was an upscale area. He walked up to the door, rang the buzzer and waited. He was waiting for about 10 minutes, and during that time, he was zoning out thinking about what he was going to have for lunch. Am I in the mood for steak or chicken?, he thought. As the door opened, a tall muscular man was standing in front of him wearing nothing but a small towel around his waist.

Both men stood there with blank stares for a split second, neither really knowing what to do or say.The driver finally blurted out that he was there to pick up a package from Bill. The man turned red and shyly said stumbling over his words, "Oh yes, it's right here. I apologize for my clothes," although he was not wearing any. The driver stood there silently waiting for the man to do something.

Bill went inside to grab the package and when he returned to the door the towel almost fell to the ground, but Bill grabbed it right in time, not baring himself completely. Finally getting a firm hold of his towel, he nervously said, "I'm sorry I was expecting someone else at the door." Clearly!

The driver took the package from Bill and went on his way to deliver. Unfortunately, after he dropped of the delivery package, the driver had lost his appetite. The driver still remembers this incident vividly to this day.
